25K Hand Fast-Fold Challenge!
Posted by BennyTheJet on March 12, 2025 at 6:22 pmHey friends! I have recently decided to take on a poker challenge in an effort to push myself to play more hands, and give me an opportunity (hopefully) build the bankroll through with some consistency! I realize that this post may not be seen by many, if not anybody at all, but would like to this use as a place to post some session updates and hold myself accountable
Challenge :
– Play 25,000 hands of Zoom (Fast-Fold) NL10 ($0.05-$0.10) on Pokerstars
– Only be able to shot take 25NL when I have 25 buyins for the next level
– Review at least 5 hands per 1K hands through friends and Rec.Poker discord

SESSION #1 :
Started off a little rough, being down a little over 5 buy-ins at our lowest point, but managed to grind it back to only being down 1.8 buyins. I think there was a bit of a learning curve as I was just getting used to the player pool and figuring out my strategy. Slightly surprised by the level of play and competent players at this stake level, but confident that I can get it figured out and put us into the black. 1.1K hands in so far and feeling hopeful heading into session #2

Session #2
managed to get in 1.5K hands but unfortunately the same sort of result, small loss on the session of 3 buy-ins. lost a couple flips with monsters mid-session and felt myself going off track. took a short break and came back feeling better and managed to recoup some of the loss and ran a bit better which helped as well.
up to 2.6K hands through 2 sessions, and down 4.7 buy-ins!

Session #3 WE HAVE PROFIT!
Only managed to get in 688 hands in today, and a whopping $3 profit on the session, but profit nonetheless! Brings our grand total up 3.3K hands played and in total down roughly 4.4 buy-ins. Feeling much more confident playing 2 tables of zoom, which gives me about 450 hands per hour. Was also able to cash out $6 in rake back today, which was put back into the BR! Here is the graph to date!

Session / Day #4 :
Played a bunch of mini sessions today so will lump it all together! started off really strong, being up as much as 5.5 buy-ins on the day, but took a cooler late in the day and honestly derailed the whole end of my session, made some horrible decisions and ended the day being down 3 buy-ins. Not happy about the ending but will keep on chugging! 1.8K hands in today, coming to a grand total of 5.2K in and down 7.5 buy-ins. THINGS WILL TURN AROUND OK!

Hey Benny I LOVE what you are doing here, having some accountability is a HUGE help when it comes to grinding up a bankroll. Looks like just your normal variance so far, stick with it and keep posting! I’ll be checking in and rooting for ya, keep it up! You have already done the hardest part.

I see you are using pokertracker which is excellent as you will easily be able to pull hands and data to study and review. One question: what caused you to choose the fast-fold variant of poker over 6-max or full ring? Just curious.

yeah im really enjoying PT4 to review some sessions and get a better understanding for my game. I decided to go with Zoom only because my current personal life schedule only has me being able to play in short bursts as opposed to being able to sit and grind a full-ring game and get the proper feel of the table/players. Being able to pop on for 200-500 hands when possible has been ideal for me, and the longer sessions when possible

Keep grinding! Really enjoy looking at your progress. I agree with Jim it seems like normal variance. I have been playing zoom PLO to help me practice that game. I may play some NLHE to help me practice my RFI ranges which I’ve been working on recently. I think it’s a great format for trying to hammered down the preflop strategy. Looking forward to seeing how you make out through the 25k hands. Enjoy the experience and don’t get too discouraged too early.

Day 6 & 7 : Making changes, seeing changes!
Feeling awesome about the past two days of grinding! bit of a tough start but decided to make some changes to my approach and saw some great results. Tightened things considerably preflop, giving me some easier decisions on later streets. Also noticed from reviewing some hands on PT4 that I am putting myself in some awful spots by playing too many marginal hands from the Small Blind. Being more conscience of position will be key moving forward.
Day 6 & 7 : 2.1K hands +3.5 buyins
