Flop Types — K72 rainbow
In this hand, the villain opens 2 bb from early position. I call from the bb with A3o.
Both players have 30 bb.
Flop is K72 rainbow.
I check and the villain c-bets 2 bb into 4 bb.
I decide to check-raise to 8 bb. Villain calls.
Why did I check-raise this flop?
This flop is really hard to nail. I doubt that any two pair combos (K7, K2, 72) exist in the opening range. The set combos (KK, 77, 22) represent 3 combos each for 9 total. The rest are one pair hands like (AK, KQ, KJ, KT, K9, A7, A2) are all possible. On the flop, these are known to have 12 combos each for 84 combos. When I check-raise, most of these hands will probably call. The villain will likely fold most pocket pairs and most ace highs.
In hindsight, I really hate my check-raise.
1) my hand is trash (A3o) on this board K72 rainbow.
2) when called, they always have it and I’ve invested 10 bb with streets to come. I have 20 bb with a 20 bb pot and my hand is still likely trash.
3) when they fold, I win a small pot of 6 bb.
4) floating out of position is a bad idea also.
