    Hi Everyone,

I am not sure if I butchered this so bear with me….

This is one of the biggest buy in events I have played and definitely the biggest since live poker started back after COVID.

And to be honest I had trouble hanging with the table, lots of 3 bet action, lots of raising flops and turns – on general far more aggressive than I am used to.

    $300 buy in (Aussie).

50k start stack with 30 min blinds.

Current blind level is 500, 1000 (1000 BB ante).

    8 handed.

    I have approx 32k

    UTG + Opens to 2,500

    Hi Jack flats

    CO flats

    I have 10 10.

If I 3 bet based on the game plan I should just shove as it will be more than 25% of my stack.

    I cant fold.

So I opt to call and decide to see the hand in position.

    SB folds.

    BB – Raises to 10,500.

BB history – we have some history together and I know him to be a capable player. He has just reloaded for this tournament and just arrived to the table he is starting the hand with approx 50,000.

At this point I am thinking he could be doing this quite light.

I am capped though so thats a problem – but if it folds to me I’ve got a decision to make….

And so it does fold to me.

I can’t flat as it is approx 33% of my starting stack.

    So I jam.

And given the dead money in the pot – BB calls it off with KJo.

Could I have / should I have played this differently?

If you want to know the outcome let me know, it was sick…..

    Thankyou everyone for your feedback!

I think this is a fine spot for a jam preflop as when it gets to you there is already 10K in the pot. When you flat here, it is really just turning TTs into a set mine and probably not getting correct odds for that. The only player we are worried about is UTG1 and our hand probably ok vs their range with all the dead money already in the middle. You are in a phase of the tournament to embrace volatility and try to grow your stack making aggressive plays when the situation arises (these means taking flips etc). As played, when BB raises I think a shove is probably better than a fold as it sounds like you are still in the re entry period when ranges will be much wider.

You mentioned The Game Plan. You also mentioned that you felt out-matched by the competition. This is exactly what The Game Plan is teaching us. How to play against superior competition. So having said all that our play here should be to 3-bet jam. As you stated our 3-bet size would be more than 25% of our stack so we would jam instead. Based on the way the hand played out I don’t think the BB would call your jam with KJo and the rest of the field would have probably folded as they did against the BB. By being the aggressor you take the weapons away from the better players. By just calling you handed him the hammer.

I like Kim and Rob’s reply, not sure I would shove 10’s in this spot in real time though, but I feel I’m a bit too passive at times. I think with 9 or 10 BBs (antes) in the pot I would not have enough fold equity against at least 3 players, so I would call. I think I am getting enough implied odds if I hit a 10 to put in 8% of my stack against 3+ players with position. If I was OOP I would shove. I think the hands I shove are JJ+, AK. Hands I call are AQs-A10s, A5s-A2s, 88, 99, 10/10, maybe KQs. I know I should be more balanced with shoves but at this stage in the tourney I would not think of it. I would have shoved after the reraise with 10/10+, AQs, AK and folded everything.
