  • Nuts and bad raise at very end? (Live tourn)

    Posted by jasonp on January 31, 2025 at 7:19 am

    200/400/400

    Live $150 tournament

    UTG+1 calls 1BB (with 95BB)

    Hero CO with AsKs raise 3.75BB (with 200BB)

    Button calls 3.75BB (with 137BB and aggressive)

    UTG+1 calls 3.75BB

    FLOP = Js9s4s

    UTG+1 checks

    Hero CO checks

    Button checks

    TURN = 3c

    UTG+1 checks

    Hero CO checks

    Button bets 7.5BB

    UTG+1 folds

    Hero CO raises to 15BB

    Button raises to 58.75BB

    Hero CO raises to 117.5BB

    Button folds

    so this was a stupid raise at the very end right, this was an obvious call at the end?

    We’ve all been there. You have the nuts and you have a victim. The impulse is to shovel the money in. In some player pools this works. You can’t beat yourself up about the potential loss of value. Depending on the run out you may not have gotten another bet in, or worse yet the board could pair allowing the opponent to suck out on you. Before putting in the raise ask yourself “what could he call with?”.
