  • Pair + Flush Draw on flop

Posted by arw on December 10, 2021 at 6:35 pm

20th minute of the home game. Effective is 55 bb or ~3000 chips.

    25/50

MP limps, I call in sb with 94hh, bb checks.

    Flop is Kh9s8h

I check, the bb bets 4 bb, MP raises to 10 bb

I have middle pair + 4 kicker and a heart flush draw.

    Action:

    — Fold

    — Cold Call 10 bb w/ one player still to act

    — Raise to ___ bb

    — Raise All In

hmmmmmm this is a tricky spot because while our pair is sometimes good at showdown it is not very often even if the rest of the hand gets checked through, and if the BB did bet 4 into a limped pot of three players, that means it’s a pretty big bet – that then gets raised by the other player in the hand, so at this point I am probably just folding to be honest – the raiser’s range has us dominated with better flush draws and combos of sets and 2pr so we would have to thread quite the needle to make it to showdown with a winning hand. Can we take it away with a shove here? Maybe sometimes if they will fold their flush draws, but we also do not close the action and the BB also has sets and 2pr combos in their range that they checked the flop with. I know I hate to fold a draw – it hurts me, physically, to do so – but this action has me looking for another spot to invest these chips into. After all, a bronze pin is on the line!

What about you, RECies? Anyone with more intestinal fortitude want to advocate for a call or a raise here?

I agree with Jim. I would insta-fold. There will be better spots to risk that many betting units. You were able to see a flop on the cheap with a very marginal hand. You did not flop enough equity to continue against this much aggression. You don’t have to win every pot.
