What to ask Jim
Posted by steve-burling on June 26, 2025 at 5:32 amHello everyone, I am very new here, been playing online for the last year or so but not doing very well just small cash games. I have recently joined a local live game with a $20 entry and have done much better. Avid listener of the podcast, so decided to support and have a 15 minute zoom call with Jim coming up.
Just after some general advice on what might be some good questions to ask? I have a tracker but haven’t had it for long, only 630 hands.
Really would like to maximize this 15 minutes to learn a little something and i am very much looking forward to it but yeah just trying to figure out what would be some good questions.
Cheers
I may have put this in the wrong forum duh, can someone please move it if possible

First off welcome to the best poker community hands down. Personally I would not worry about the results as much as the process of your learning. As it’s the journey you take that defines you as a player not the destination. Questions to ask. As far as pt4 goes I would ask . If you don’t know how to already just a basic set up a basic hud profile. I know those can get very detailed. Another question could be how to set up a study routine and what drills to use. Another could be how to get more involved in the community and what you can do to help it continue to grow.

Hey Steve,
Welcome! Glad you’ve joined us and are seeing some success in your home game. First, I’d say, don’t worry about maximizing your time of 15 minutes and then you’re done. This is just designed to help you get started and learn about your options. I’d see you goal in this call to be leaving with a sense of direction or next steps. Jim will likely try to understand what you’re trying to do or what you’d like to accomplish and give suggestions about what to try. There are a lot of options in Rec.Poker and the members that get the most out of what we do, find their thing and dig in. So I’d arrive less with questions or more a sense of your goals or purpose in being part of a poker community. Do you want to connect with others? Play more often? Learn and improve? Get more feedback on your game? etc. etc. If you can answer those questions yourself, Jim can help guide you to some logical next steps.

Thank you both for your responses, some great ideas and you have got me thinking about it from a different angle which is what I needed.
Looking forward to being a more active part of the rec poker community moving forward 😊
