I prefer a flat here. It kind of depends on our opening strategy, but if we’re limping hands like J6s, we’re likely limping most of our non-premium suited hands. We have aggro opponent stats, but not enough hands to take that much into account. So let’s think about BB range (who is also short). BB should be raising some of their premiums (hands like A7s+, KTs+, 77+, AJo+, KQo) and if they’re kind of good, they’ll also have a little bit of absolute garbage in there (T3o, Q2o etc.). But my experience is that people are weighted more toward the value than the garbage. And a lot of opponents will ship some of their Axo and smaller pocket pairs, so we can discount some of those too.
If we ship with J6s, are we doing this with a ton of our other suited hands? Q8s? T7s? 65s? And if so, we’re doing this far too often against what could be a pretty strong range. This is especially true if our opponent can’t have much of that garbage (like T2o).
With that in mind, I like a flat. Our hand has some potential, let’s see where this goes. We’ll have 16bb left. There’s not a huge difference in those stacks if we have to give this up. And we’re more likely to get stacks in ahead if we play this more passive line preflop. So I’m flatting this spot.
