I want to mention preflop last because I think we should often consider a 3-bet here, but once we get postflop multiway, I’m checking range in this spot like you did. Once it checks around and we make our straight, leading the turn is a must. When V min-raises us, we’d obviously be in dire straights based on the results, but I think this is a clear jam. There’s a lot of value out there that we beat, and only one hand that beats us. So I’m targeting diamond draws, sets, and two pairs with this jam.

When we call and the board pairs, I like your river check. The board pairing or a diamond on this river is exactly what we want to avoid, so I’m hoping to reach showdown and win.

The spot where I want to think about more is preflop. We have a 27bb and are facing a late position open from a 32 bb stack. If we flat with 7h8h, we’re going to be out of position the whole hand and likely multiway. I like an 8bb 3-bet here. We often take down the hand right there, but in all but the worst of worst cases, we’re much more likely to go heads up with initiative and having “cleared the lane” for just the kind of flop we see. (yes, we could also get jammed on by cutoff, but that is a trivial fold). So we get the benefit of sometimes just taking it down while also being able to play more effectively out of position postflop.
