Hi Mikey we had a spirited discussion about this post on the forums podcast tonight – it will come out in April. Tough spot! Thanks for posting.

I’m planning to be there from June 22 to mid July and will probably arrange a meetup or two over that span – there are quite a few low buy-in events this year, great to see!

Hi @spawnkill yes that’s exactly right. You should see an email from me putting you in touch with the coach you selected. If you don’t see it, email me jim@rec.poker and we’ll get you all sorted out. Congrats on taking the next step in your poker journey!

I love Playground in Montreal, and would play there anytime. Hoping to do a RecPoker RoadTrip there this spring, maybe April/May? I’m heading to Dublin for the Irish Poker Open at the end of March this year for the first time – should be a blast! Barcelona is an amazing city but I have never played poker there. basically: ya, what Chris said 🤣

Looks like we are close to a full table! If you haven’t played in the Deep Dive before, Chris will post the link to join here right after we record the podcast on YouTube – usually the link is posted around 8:45pm ET. Once the link is posted, join the group and take a seat!

Hi @7High11 thank you for this wonderful sentiment!
I’m trying to be better about sharing how our members feel about RecPoker with the rest of the world – would you consider sharing these thoughts in this new forum post I’ve put together with this in mind?
https://rec.poker/forums/discussion/testimonials/
It’s great to hear it John, thanks again. See you in a study group soon!

Hi @marcel-dusyk thanks for posting another interesting spot! Here’s what I am thinking as I read your post.
1) there are 4 players out of 12 who have 15 bigs or fewer, and 9 are paid – it sounds like you are one of 3 relatively short stacks, was there one clear shorty?
2) you are in the SB and have the longest orbit until your next blind and ante – what was the time remaining before blinds go up?
3) the CO open-limped – had they been limping already, and if so could you note any showdown hands or guess their frequency?
4) what info did you have about the player to your left in the BB, when limped to had they been calling/checking or raising over limps while you were at the table with them?
5) did anyone at the table ever say something to give you the impression they knew anything about how to play near the bubble, or ICM, or anything like that? Most people don’t, which counter-intuitively can sometimes make them harder to play against in spots like this (or at least means that they can negatively affect not only themselves but you as well with their errors)

Well @SirGasleak you have pretty much nailed it – I will emphasize the importance of knowing your foes – their elasticity, as you point out, is the key factor when you are deciding about whether to value-bet or bluff and to what size. I like that you are looking at the player pool in Canada to work on, I am doing the same thing in geo-fenced Ontario. Very different tendencies at certain stakes that I would expect from a global playerpool.

AdministratorApril 25, 2023 at 3:11 pm in reply to: Is there value in playing online cash to practice for tournaments?Monkie makes a good point about APT or DTO simulators but I feel strongly that you can definitely use cash play to practice your tournament skills – as long as you focus on the right skills. It’s all about stack depth, so keep that in mind with your preflop ranges, and then you should be in good shape to drill on whatever you are working on. Fast-fold games are also good for this because you can quickly move from hand to hand. One note: Game selection matters because your foes might respond differently in cash than they would in tourneys, depending on the stakes I think. Thanks for posting!

I find vocals are distracting in music when I am trying to focus, so instrumentals are better for that. You will laugh, but “NFL films” has some GREAT psych-you-up tunes in their catalogue from clip shows over the years. You can goggle it – some of the song names are hilarious!

AdministratorApril 25, 2023 at 3:02 pm in reply to: Getting sticky when villain over bets the riverInteresting spot @George Chris has nailed a lot of this – once you get to the point of really being indifferent to calling or folding, that’s when things like holding a club matter. It’s a good tie-breaker but don’t substitute it for things like combo-counting which often will give you an answer that is more definitive one way or the other as opposed to indifferent. Thanks for posting!
