  • AJo final 3 Tables — Do we adjust for player types?

Posted by taylormaas on April 1, 2024 at 7:53 pm

    Hey Rec.Poker Nation,

Got a couple of hands from the $88 Loncar on ACR. For both of these hands, we are at the final 3 tables (17 left, 9 max) and playing 5 handed. At this point, we have sharkscoped our opponents and have some decent reads on them. Both hands are pre-flop only, but think there’s some good considerations to make based on the player types.

Directly to our left is a shark, they have one of the highest winnings that I’ve seen on ACR and are playing very solid stats.

Two to our left is a fish, After sharkscoping this player I found out that they have a fish icon for some players that are that bad

Two to our right is an aggressive player, they have mixed results but they’re stats are very 3bet/raise heavy.

One to our right doesn’t come into play but they were an average player with mid results.

    On to the hands…..

Hand #1, we are the SB (27BBs).

UTG/HJ (the fish, 37 BBs) opens to 2 BBs, folds to us in the SB w AJo, the BB (30 BBs) behind us is the shark.

How do we approach this hand given the player dynamics? How would it change if we flip the two players?

Hand #2, we are the HJ/UTG (27.5 BBs)

We HJ/UTG open AJo to 2.1 BBs, BTN (fish 31.5 BBs) calls 2 BBs, SB (aggressive, 28 BBs) raises to 7.2 BBs.

How do we approach this hand given the player dynamics? How would it change if we flip the two players?

Very interesting spots. AJo gets gross in these late spots, and I’m curious what others think because I could be way off. So the first hand, I think I’m always 3betting small in this dynamic (to like 6bb). We’d like to isolate the fish and they’ll often call with worse. But this definitely discourages BB from coming into the hand with nonsense. We never want to flat and give the shark a good chance to squeeze. If we were to flip the two players with the shark opening and the fish behind us, I’d mostly prefer to rip this. I don’t want to play a pot with the shark player OOP this late and deep and AJ is a good candidate for this action. (But I also might find a couple of folds and just never tell anyone.)

Hand 2: I need to know how aggro SB is. But based on your description, they’re very 3bet happy and fish is dead money. I’m fist pump jamming this hand. If these players are reversed and the fish has taken this action, I’m running for the hills and folding.

Two Cristal pieces of info are missing. What’s the current tourney average. And where’s the bubble or payouts at that level.
