Calling All-ins
When should I be calling all-ins on the flop?
I mostly play $0.05/$0.10 and $0.10/$0.25 cash games online. In the last few sessions, I built up a stack from 100 bbs to around 175 bbs. I found myself early in a hand thinking I had the best hand but folding to a LAG’s all-in. I’m not sure if that was correct. Here are two situations
1. I am in the CO with TT with around 170 bb. LJ limps. I raise to 4.5bbs. BTN calls. LJ calls. BTN has been playing a lot, not making it to showdown. LJ is playing well and has about 170 bb as well. Pot is around 15bb
Flop is 4-6-9 rainbow. LJ checks. I bet 10bb. BTN goes all-in for 75 bb. LJ calls. I fold. BTN shows AJs and LJ shows 77. Turn and River are bricks. LJ wins the pot.
2. Different table playing 9-handed, I am on the BTN with 9h8h with abound 170 bbs. LJ (75bb) and HJ (150bb) both limp. I bet 4.5bb. Both call
Flop is 3h-7h-9c. LJ checks. HJ shoves it all in for 150 bbs. I have top pair and a flush draw. I’m thinking HJ has AhXh. I fold. LJ calls with Tc7c. Turn and river brick. LJ wins it with a pair of 7s.
Kind of frustrating to fold the best and that would have held. Am I playing too tight? I would probably call if I was under 100bb. Also, should I be folding more in those situations since I am not closing the action? Are you supposed to call off your stack with TT on a low board or top pair and a weak draw? Both situations felt strange at the time. I thought I could be misreading the villians’ hands, and I could have a bad run out. What is the math here?
