Diet During Long Tournaments
I just listened to episode 1 of the Mindset monthly seminar. Chris talked about wearing a backpack to long tournaments as he led into proper eating during a tournament. Last year I ordered some surplus military MRE’s from Amazon to have for a meal while on break during tournaments. There are a number of good things about this:
– Easily fit in a backpack
– Provide all the nutrition you need, two a day sustain a soldier in combat
– Don’t make you sleepy, they’re not greasy or loaded with drowsiness-inducing carbs
– Taste fine cold, so they’re quick during the limited time of a tournament break
– Last for years so you can order a box of them and store them somewhere in your home
Before you laugh this off… I had many of them during my military career. They are actually quite good, even cold. They’re designed that way.
This became important to me during a WSOPC festival early this year. I played the nightly after indulging myself with a big platter of shrimp scampi at the Italian restaurant near the event center. I was drowsy, got a headache from the carb crash, and couldn’t concentrate. I played some of my worst poker ever. I lit the entry money on fire that night.
