  • Facing a river overbet on ACR

Posted by jamin96 on December 4, 2022 at 10:15 am

After hearing about all the Venom hype from a few weeks back I decided to load on a few buyins on ACR and tryout the site in some small stakes MTTs. One of the first ones I fired was a $6.60 PKO.

We have been running well in the early stages of this MTT and have run our stack up to 347606 collecting one bounty off a 125000-starting stack. We are at a new table fresh off a table change when this hand occurs.

    Blinds: 2000/4000 with a 600 ante

    Hero Stack: 347606 (86.9BB)

    Villain Stack: 446228 (111.55BB)

Villain opens the Hi-Jack (HJ) for a min raise to 8000. We have played 19 hands with them, and they have a VPIP of 16% with no raises or 3-bets up until this hand. Folds to us in the Big Blind with Ad9c. Should we 3-bet this hand? We have not seen this opponent open any hands yet so it’s hard to get specific reads so I tend to just go with what I think the best GTO option would be. Afterwards I think I like a 3-bet in this spot especially with the offsuit variety of this holding. I think a suited hand would make a much better call considering that we are going to have to play out of position post flop and the suitness makes it easier to play. Based on the stack depth I think I should’ve tried a 3-bet here, but I instead make the call.

Flop: Td Ac Ks -Pot: 22800 (5.7BB) -Hero stack: 343606 (85.9BB) -Villain stack: 438228 (109.55BB)

We check and villain bets 15048 (3.76BB) and we call. Any merit for check-raise? I like these middling aces as a call in this situation. We could still be beat here and we have a good hand to try to get to showdown but we are going to have to face 2 more streets to get there.

Turn: Ah -Board: Td Ac Ks Ah -Pot: 52896 (13.22BB) -Hero stack: 328558 (82.14BB) -Villain stack: 423180 (105.8BB)

We make trips on this scary board; do we ever find a bet in this spot? We are so deep and have faced a lot of aggression from our opponent who could still have us crushed, but we really like our hand now. I think if I do bet we go big like close to pot sized or maybe bigger? Or does a block bet or 1/3 pot look better in this spot? I decided to check and play in flow on the turn. Or opponent in the HJ once again bets: 34 911 (8.73BB). Now should we check raise? Curious to see what everyone thinks. We call and this pot is getting big!

River: Js -Final Board: Td Ac Ks Ah Js -Pot: 122718 (30.67BB) -Hero stack: 293647 (73.41BB) -Villain stack: 388269 (97BB)

We check and they JAM!!! A massive overbet on this river and what are we thinking? Why didn’t I raise pre and possibly take this down postflop? Should I have led or check raised turn or would have that just lead to our demise? Or do we just have too good of a hand and need to call it off in this spot? Ill share what my results where after I get some feedback. Ill also tag a link of the hand as this hand was played live on stream http://www.twitch.tv/bejamin96 check us out when we are live to see these hands play out in person!
