Here is a hand where a screwed up on the turn. What would you do here? Let me know what you guys think.

    Yatahay Network – 600/1200 NL (8 max) – Holdem – 8 players

    http://www.pokertracker.com]Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

    UTG: 73.79 BB

    UTG+1: 67.98 BB

    MP: 42.46 BB

    Hero (MP+1): 53.83 BB

    CO: 26.59 BB

    BTN: 38.03 BB

    SB: 107.8 BB

    BB: 26.94 BB

8 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2.5 BB) Hero has JcJs

UTG raises to 2.5 BB, fold, fold, Hero raises to 6.5 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, UTG calls 4 BB

    Flop: (15.5 BB, 2 players) 4s2c5s

UTG checks, Hero bets 10.23 BB, UTG calls 10.23 BB

    Turn: (35.96 BB, 2 players) 3c

    UTG checks, Hero checks

River: (35.96 BB, 2 players) 2s UTG bets 19.17, fold

    UTG wins 35.96 BB

Stats on villain only 82 hands 38/21/8. Never got out of line based on hands that went to showdown.

Was my flop bet-size okay or should I go with a smaller size on this texture? My thoughts were that he wasn’t the BB so this wouldn’t hit his range anymore than it would hit mine. I probably should have bet the turn and represent the ace. Because I checked the turn my hand became face up and he had the green light to bet with anything on the river. Okay guys let me have it.

I like how you played this hand. After this runout, I think the river is actually a really easy fold for us to make.

Couple notes, 3b size is too small you should be going 3x the open 7.5 would be a little better. Next note, flop bet was a little large i would go around 7-7.2 on the flop that would be geometric sizing that would get you in smoothly by the river with 3equal betting sizing percentages. then on the turn dont hate a check back villain deff has a lot of Ax in the range, but so do you. So we can barrel again geo metric sizing would be like 13 i think but i could get behind a small block bet here something along the lines of 5-7bb again. if raised we can fold. or if they call and check river again we can comfortably check it back and chalk up our loses. Oh and lastly. Only 82 hands on the villain. I wouldnt take any stats into consideration, usually wait to use any stats until a couple hundred hands on someone. 82 is a very small sample.

I like the way you played this hand too. I like the larger flop sizing based on this formation and flop texture. This is a very dynamic flop, but also one that shouldn’t really hit either of you much. I like a larger bet to charge the draws and protect our hand.

The only card that would’ve been a worse turn is the 3s. I think we can comfortably check here. We will need to have a little Ax in our range when we do to protect ourselves. I think the best Ax to do this with would be As. We’re protected against a lot of V’s flush draws if we hold that card so it can be a nice turn check which can capture a decent number of river bluffs, and because it blocks a lot of their flush draws, it isn’t as painful when the river is a spade.

Once this board pairs and the flush comes home, it is a trivial fold. I think I’m playing exactly like you do, and as long as you do have some Ax in your check back range, I don’t think you have to worry about it looking “face-up”.

I actually agree with Misclick. Larger 3b pre and smaller flop bet. We have to consider the fact that he’s raising 2.5x from UTG and calling a 3b OOP, so his range should be pretty strong. You’re not getting any better hands to fold to a flop bet, and you don’t need to bet so much to deny equity to his AK/AQ/KQs stuff. Plus, you don’t really want him to fold his 88-TT either.

I like to 3bet to pot size.
#1- it is easy to do online instead of typing something in.
#2- they will hit a pair or better 32% of the time, and we are giving them 33% pot odds, so often they are making a mistake by calling.
To determine a pot sized bet, take 3X the last bet plus any dead money. In this case, 3*2.5(last bet) +2.5(blinds and antes) =10BB 3bet.
That being said, it is an UTG Raise, so I think a call is fine, also.

Flop bet is fine. He’s not folding overpairs, gutshots, and a lot of flush draws. We need to decide if we want to get in by the river now and decide how sticky we are going to be WHEN the overcard inevitably comes. If we 3bet to 10, then 3e is like 30%.

The turn nails his 3bet calling range making every ace a straight. Check is all you can do.

The river brings in the flushes, full houses, sets, and two pairs which is just too much for one pair to survive. I would never call here with JJ.

I think you played it for max EV.
