Let’s Talk about Table Position Names
Whether we’re posting hand histories in this forum, Discord, or another platform, it’s key to identify the table positions of the players involved. It is a known issue that naming of table positions is not standardized. Depending on the website, coach, or software, you’ll see different ways to describe position. I know I’m not alone in being frustrated with this.
To address this, I have developed nomenclature for table position. It covers table sizes from 9-handed down to 4-handed. It eliminates confusing terms like UTG+2 and MP2. My system uses a lot of the late position terms (CO, HJ, LJ) that are already in common usage. It cleans up the early position naming with simple specific terms.
