  • Final table bubble with 44 on the button

Posted by imalouigi on November 6, 2020 at 7:09 am

10/275 remain. It is a NL turbo so the average stack is ~15 bbs. I’ve gone back and forth on this one as to whether it’s more important to preserve or accumulate with such shallow stacks. Shove, fold….and maybeeeee even raise/fold (to SB shove) are all in-play here. What do you like and why? ????

Folds to hero (19 bbs) on the button with 44

SB with ~10 bbs & BB with ~4 bbs

I like a min open and calling a shove from either player. Ideally the BB, you could consider raise folding vs the sb but it feels a bit tight. Having a limping range for these situations could also be a way to go when on a short stack.

So this is a five-handed table then, right? If so, I’m shoving here. People tighten up their calling ranges on final table bubbles and I cover both blinds. If one of them covered me, I’d have a much more difficult decision. I don’t very much care if BB calls me, so it comes down to SB. Yes, I’m at best flipping with the SB calling range, but I think we potentially get SB to fold hands as good as KQ here.

ICMizer agrees (see screenshot), though barely. This is ICM and equilibrium. I think our results are better than ICMizer suggests in practice, especially at lower stakes. So I think it makes it a clear push in my mind.

Good analysis Chris. Another thing to consider is the relative stack sizes of the blinds. Having a less than average stack, SB wants to wait for the BB to bust first. SB can fold and hope you bust BB. So there is added fold equity vs SB.

There was a LONG debate on my twitter feed about this hand and I think my takeaway is that in a turbo structure, we need to push any edge.

I found the spot awkward because of BB’s stack size. I did consider folding in game but ultimately went with the shove. The results are remarkably uninteresting. Both folded and hero won the blinds! Ha!

I wrote it down to revisit if we should be considering a fold in this spot.

    Thanks for the analysis @FiveByFive

I know the analysis has been completed. I think from an EV perspective this is an easy shove, but I’m not so sure from an ICM/tourney perspective. With 19 bigs you are in good shape and almost certain to move up a few spots while, in the mean time, finding better spots.
