Fun Hand — Taylor
Posted by arw on July 25, 2020 at 12:49 pmLast night, I witnessed a hand that you played that was significant in the early stages. I don’t know the exact action but I was very surprised with what happened. Here are the details that I remember, maybe you can fill in the gaps.
- Both players have large stacks (>40 bb)
- The pot size after pre-flop action was larger than normal.
- The flop was Th 8h 7h.
- The villain made almost a pot-sized bet on the flop. That was called.
- On the turn, all the money went in.
- I think you had 9h8s for middle pair and a straight flush draw.
- Your opponent had 96 for a flopped straight.
After watching your opponent win this hand, I remember thinking that you would likely bust soon after. I was wrong, you got 2nd place!!! Good Job.

would love to hear more details on this also, but one consideration is that if Taylor’s opponent has two pair or a set, Taylor has the only flush draw with 9 outs. If he’s up against top/over pair, taylor has plenty of outs (plus maybe flush outs), the opponent could have a lot of just Ah heart and Taylor just has to dodge.

You got some details wrong. Here’s how I remember it.
I open from MP w 9h8x, BB calls.
Flop: T73 two hearts. — I bet 45% pot and get raised to 2.4x my size, I call.
Turn: 8h — BB leads pot size bet. (which was really close to all in).
I tank called on the turn. Was a weird spot but when he leads for pot on the turn I’m not too happy but I assume he would play the extreme value hands (like flushes) slower. So if I can remove some of those hands from his range I thought I’m doing ok enough to call. If he has a big heart, that limits the current strength of his hand (like Steve had mentioned).
I think if I run the numbers its a negative spot for me to call.
