Fun Hand
Posted by arw on July 18, 2020 at 10:21 pmTonight, I got away with something.
Let’s play guess my hand.
100/200…my table is active with 2 big stacks to my right.
Middle position minraises with 4000 stack.
I’m in the big blind with 4000 stack and I defend. Two players to the flop.
The flop is A3T rainbow.
Pot = 4.5 bb + antes
I check and my opponent min-bets, I call.
The turn is 9. (2nd heart)
Pot = 4.5 bb + 2 bb + antes
I check and my opponent min-bets. I check-raise to 4 bb. Villain calls.
The river is Q. (No flush draws)
Pot = 4.5 + 2 + 8 bb + antes
I push all-in for about 85% pot. Villain folds.
What do I have on the A3T9Q board?

Based on you saying you got away with something, then I think you were bluffing/semi-bluffing at some point in the hand. You may have hit on the river or whiff and pulled off the double barrel.
Flop (A T 3 r): Facing a min bet, you need to call with most of your range. On this unconnected board, in addition to any pair you need to call with all sorts of backdoor draws. Can continue with any two broadways (gutshots), suited connectors and one gappers like J9s, 98s, 87s 45s that have backdoor flush and straight draws.
Turn (A T 3 9 hh): The 9h adds a flush draw to any two heart hands (KhJh, 5h4h) Open-ended straight draw has bee added to hands like QJ, J8, and 87. Single pair hands that now have two pair are A9 and T9. The best drawing hands to check raise with are hands with decent equity but no showdown value. 5h4h and 87 are the best candidates.
River (A T 3 9 Q): The queen has added a pair to some hands (QJ) and completed straight for others (KJ, J8). A single pair hand would usually bet small or check. You make a big polarized bet. Your value are sets (33, 99), two pair (T9), and straights (KJ, J8) . Bluffs are missed draws 87 and 45.
My guess is 5h4h.

Love it…this is not correct but your guess is close to correct. Your thinking and rationale were right on par for how I played the hand.
-
So are you going tell us what you had?
-
You mean, tell you. I was hoping to disclose if more people took some guesses.
-
Let’s see if @Jim @yamel @FiveByFive or @SteveFredlund want to throw out their guesses. I, for one, don’t mind if they don’t show their work.
-
Dang I missed this too… love this stuff.

Binkley did all the hard work. I am just going to throw out a guess. 2h4h.

I like both of these guesses, 5h4h, 4h2h. So just to be different but in the same ball park 5h2h. All of these are great bluff candidates. We have the stone bottom of our distribution and would play all of these this way to the river.
